Class Description

INSTRUCTOR: Kevin Vetter No Class on 11/24 Ready to move beyond basic handbuilding projects? This class is designed for students with some experience in slab, coil, and other handbuilding techniques who want to explore more complex forms, construction methods, and design possibilities. We’ll explore advanced slab and coil construction, altering and combining forms, lids, handles and other functional additions, joining larger or more complex pieces, and refining form, proportion, and surface. Emphasis will be placed on developing your own ideas rather than simply following a project step-by-step. Throughout the session, students will also design and build a larger individual project, applying the techniques learned in class to create a finished piece that reflects their own style and interests. Come prepared to experiment, problem-solve, and make work that challenges you. PREREQUISITE: Basic handbuilding experience TOOLS NEEDED: Hand Building Tool Kit (Add to cart when registering) INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHY: Kevin Vetter is a handbuilder, retired carpenter, and trained chef who has spent a lifetime making functional objects. His work focuses on simple forms, texture, and creating pottery that is meant to be used and enjoyed every day. Drawing from backgrounds in construction, design, and craftsmanship, Kevin emphasizes practical skills, strong building techniques, and helping students develop confidence working with clay. He believes pottery should be approachable, rewarding, and accessible to everyone, regardless of experience level. Kevin lives and works in Fort Collins, where he creates handbuilt functional pottery in his home studio.
